There exists in all of us a fascination
for terror and the supernatural. We find it in all of us as
we sit tensely in a darkened theater and let the images
that flash by cause our hearts to race faster and faster,
or as we lie in bed reading the newest thriller at 1 AM.
Alas, for many, the new medias have overtaken the fine
pastime of reading a good story.
Presently, we have all heard of Stephen
King, Dean Koontz, Clive Barker, Anne Rice, and others.
However, a surprisingly few of us have ever heard of H.P.
Lovecraft, Algernon Blackwood, or Ambrose Bierce. This site
is here to introduce the talents of the great men and women
who were busy making hearts race before most of us were
even born.
This
site grew out of my love for the horror short story and I
am collecting as many as I can get my hands on. All the
stories you will find here are, to the best of my
knowledge, in the public domain. So get ready, browse the
growing collection, and prepare to be shocked, astounded,
and above all entertained.
Due to space limitations I have included here only short works--no novels. If you feel any text worthy of being called classic horror has been unjustly omitted please feel free to contact me. [Make sure to switch "@" for "(at)" in the email address.] I will be constantly updating this site so check back often.
